Arcanite Pictures

Photography is a tool that has multiple possibilities of extension in order to strengthen the language of images. I have always had images in my mind generated in particular periods of my life, especially in moments conditioned by strong emotional states. I think that photography is an interesting possibility to navigate one's unconscious and discover relevant elements and meanings of one's person. So the questions I asked myself were: "How are these images in my mind connected to each other? Is there a hierarchy of meanings between them or can they be connected following a different model?”. After several searches, I decided to organize the connection between these images through Deleuze and Guattari's Rhizome.

Rhizome is a philosophical concept that describes a nonlinear network of heterogeneous elements that connects any point to any other point and would therefore be able to unite very distant elements, concepts, and phenomena. Since the rhizome is an acentric system, non-hierarchical and free of a fixed order, it contrasts the central, hierarchy-style tree model, where every meaning is arranged accordingly - in a linear way.

Therefore, the goal of this long-term photographic project series, entitled "✻..✧..✦⌇..✧☄︎☄︎..✦⑊" is to collect an indefinite number of photographs conceived and irrationally generated by emotional impulses. They'll then be placed in a rhizomatic order to find connections and hidden meanings.

The images I have created so far have highlighted my willingness not to represent human faces, but specific body parts, such as hands which in the language of dreams can mean a need to communicate. Other images connected to each other instead highlighted how anxious emotional states have generated mostly hermetic if not downright disturbing images. The connections help me understand how my emotions influence the aesthetics and meaning of the photographs I imagine and reproduce.
